Have you considered adding other herbs to your joints or bowls?
There are many healing herbs and flowers you can add to your smoking blends, - for flavor, for fun and variety, for therapeutic effects, or to reduce the potency of your cannabis (and to make it last longer~!). Another way to use herbs and flowers is just at the “crutch” end of the joint, so you can butt out the joint when it’s too short and harsh, without wasting any cannabis.
Here Are My Favorite Additions To A Joint Or Bowl, In Order Of My Own Personal Preference.
Experiment with adding one or two to three herbs to your cannabis, creating custom blends to fit the mood or your intention. (Note: For me, cannabis is 50-75% of the blend, with the other herbs taking up the remaining 25-50% of the blend, depending on the herbs I’m using and the desired effect). I like to use the color-coded cones from Club Croquetso when I make my blends I can keep track of what herbs I’ve used and their effects. (Shout-out to another amazing woman-owned company!!). Ok, let’s get into the herbs….
Calendula
Use this flower most often because I love the smooth citrus taste and pretty yellow petals that it adds to my joints. It’s also used to enhance dreams. (10-25% of the blend)
Damiana
Sexy damiana is used for relaxation and mild euphoria, and is said to be good for the nervous system and libido. It tastes super lovely. (10-50% of the blend)
Marshmallow Leaf
I love the taste of this one too, and its relaxing effects. Best of all, marshmallow is a gentle lung-soother and antioxidant. (10-50% of the blend)
Mugwort
This is another tasty herb to add to smoking blends, and it’s been used for centuries for pain relief, to aid in digestion, to soothe anxiety, and for lucid and vivid dreams. It has a subtle, sage-like aroma.
Mint (Spearmint Or Peppermint)
I love using peppermint and spearmint for a little upliftment and fun menthol flavor to my joints, though too much can feel harsh. (5-10% of the blend).
Rose Or Lavender Flowers
Show off a special and stunning joint or bowl by using one or both of these fragrant and beautiful flowers. They add relaxation, beauty, goddess energy, and heartful intention to the blend (<5% of the blend).
Sage
This sacred herb is added for flavor, relaxation, and ceremony. Best to use sage that was grown oneself or by Indigenous people, as over-harvesting is threatening some species. (<10 of the blend).
Tulsi
Also known as ‘Holy Basil,’ this Ayurvedic herb has been used for centuries as an adaptogen (something that helps the body handle stress). It tastes minty and slightly sweet (and slightly like tobacco).
Mullein
This herb calms coughs when taken as a tea or tincture, but may also help the throat when smoked or vaped. I also find it makes my cannabis less harsh, though I’m personally not a huge fan of the taste, because it reminds me of the taste of tobacco. (10% of the blend).
Other Herbs & Flowers
There are other delicious and medicinal herbs that can be added, though I haven’t explored them as much. Please try them out and send me a DM on Instagram with what you like, notice, and recommend!
Some other ways to spice up your spliffs: Skullcap, Horehound, Catnip, Passionflower, Uva Ursi, Willowbark, and Red Raspberry Leaf.
To Conclude: Herbs Are Tasty, Healing, & Fun.
We hope that you feel inspired to add other healing, tasty, and fun herbs to your joints!
(Not that cannabis needs anything extra, but sometimes we want those additional medicinal effects).
In either case, have fun exploring and experimenting. And maybe while you’re at it, you’ll enjoy your first week free to our on-demand Ganja Yoga classes! Check them out while you blaze, -
