Elevated Smoke Tip #1: Make Personalized Blends
As we learn more about cannabinoids, it makes sense to mix strains together, to create the most balanced (and customized) terpene profile.
Javi, who is co-leading the Berkeley Pod with myself during the Ganja Yoga Training, likes to mix at least three (and up to twelve) strains for her psychedelic cannabis circles.
She says this brings the most balanced blend for journeying, without the paranoia that the Sativas might bring, or the sleepiness that the Indicas might bring. Javi also recommends vaping instead of smoking, to really preserve the tasty and healing terpenes, which sadly mostly burn off when we blaze our bud.
Elevated Smoke Tip #2: Natural Papers
Mel, who is our Virtual Pod Leader for the May hybrid livestream training, recommends her Ganja Yoga students roll with thin, natural, bleach-free hemp papers. She also suggests yogis learn to roll their own joints, as pre-rolls may contain lesser-quality cannabis trimmings and bleached paper.
Elevated Smoke Tip #3: Intentional Rolling
As we know with other psychedelics, the set, setting, attitude and intention we bring to our medicine impacts the high as much as the chemical compounds.
Taye, our Maryland Ganja Yoga Training Pod Leader, shares that does visualization exercises while rolling her joints. She shares, “I keep stones and gems on my rolling tray for crystal healing and infusions, and, I always have a fire affirmation music playlist ready.”
Neidara, our Tampa Pod Leader agrees. She writes, “Something that I do is intentionally smoking. Whether that is giving a reason to smoke, or even maybe writing on my rolling paper or blunt the reason why I'm smoking, or if I'm trying to manifest something specific, like an amount of money, I’ll write that.” She shares that in her Smoken Yoga practice, they burn cannabis to make things happen or help other things fade away.
Elevated Smoke Tip #4: The Dry Hit
Rachel, our New Mexico Ganja Yoga Training Pod Leader, says her favorite smoking tip is the 'dry hit,’ where you take a puff or two from the un-lit joint before sparking it. She says, “The opportunity for a fresh, pre-burnt terp taste is such a great way to experience your flower.” You simply puff you doobie like it’s already lit, and savor the taste. Yum.
Elevated Smoke Tip #5: Light With A Hemp Wick
A hemp wick, dipped in beeswax and wrapped around a lighter, provides a cooler combustion alternative to traditional lighters. Use it to light your pipe or joint for a cleaner smoking experience.
Elevated Smoke Tip #6: Light Your Joint Like A Sacrament
Nydia, who’ll be leading our Detroit pod during the May training, suggests we “think about lighting our joints like we light our incense,” which means we “take time to add the alchemizing energy of fire that transforms and transmutes the THCA into THC (the active cannabinoid that is associated largely with feeling various effects).” Perhaps we even use the joint like incense, purifying our space as we puff.
Elevated Smoke Tip #7: Avoid Holding The Toke In
Yazmin, our Chicago Pod Leader, offers this tip, since she often see people coughing more than they need to. She recommends, “See if instead of gulping-and-holding, you can take one or two puffs into your lungs, followed by a small sip of fresh air to cool the smoke, then exhale immediately to reduce hot smoke lingering in your throat.” It takes some practice, but leads to less coughing and discomfort.
Lady Namastizzle, who’ll be joining me and Javi as a Berkeley Pod Leader, adds to this by saying, “if we choose a higher-potency flower, we require less tokes to get high.” She adds that we can minimize our exposure to toxic compounds by cherrying the joint or pipe instead of repeatedly lighting it.
Remember, moderation and mindfulness play key roles in creating a positive and health-conscious cannabis smoking routine. Experiment with these tips to discover what works best for your individual preferences and well-being.
